One would need a Chinese visa to enter China and a visa letter is required for applying for business visa, i.e., type "F". Please send the following information to the secretariat (firstname.lastname@example.org) to obtain the visa letter.
a) full name on the passport
b) nationality, passport no., gender, and date of birth
c) city of Chinese consulate
d) postal address (if Chinese consulate doesn't accept a scan copy)
Or you may simply email the secretariat the scan copy of the photo page of your passport. In any case, please apply for visa within three months before your travel or follow the instruction on the website of Chinese consulate.
The secretariat will mail the visa letter (registered mail as it contains important documents) upon receiving the information above and it takes about 2 weeks for the mail to arrive abroad. If a request for the visa letter only comes within a month of one's travel, FedEx will be hired to deliver the letter and the courier fee would have to borne by the receiver. It usually takes 10 working days to process a visa so please send your request in your earliest convenience.
Please state in the Email subject line "visa application to attend ICDM2012 workshop".
(It's also found that in some countries (e.g. USA, Canada, France, etc.), it's easier to obtain a tourist visa without the official visa letter. Please inquire your visa contact or the Chinese embassy in your country. The secretariat would be happy to provide documents if needed.)
